Customer Tax ID validation / verification

For tax-exempt customer functionality, it'd be nice to validate the Tax ID where possible (like using VIES system for the EU). If you vote for this, please comment noting which countries you're concerned about, and your desired use case.

Extremely difficult to workaround this. Going to have to add a step to the Checkout process it seems which will be ugly.

We are UK based (and the current system even allows the customer to enter a VAT ID that is UK based and be VAT Exempt which is not allowed).

VAT Field needs checking against VIES and also validated it is not from the same country as the stores home country.

Dutch merchant here. Selling B2B to any country including all EU member countries. Without validation the whole VAT registration feature will be up for abuse which makes it subpar. But the fact that Foxycart offers this to begin with is great. The guys at Shopify for instance don't seem to understand what all this European VAT is all about at all. So keep up the good work, stay on top and please create the validation tool... :) Thanks.

Yes, vaildation would be GREAT - it's a headache for a merchant ( vs a developer)
I am a UK merchant and have to deal with EU clients, consumer vs business.
Currently using some hacked code but would love to have a supported version.
